Local bars

When crossing any coastal bar, it is compulsory for everyone on board to wear a suitable approved life jacket.

This applies at all times in vessels of all sizes, whether you are in a small open runabout or a larger yacht or cruiser.

For more information about life jackets, including where and when you must wear them, check out the NSW Lifejacket rules

Batemans Bay Bar

Map of Batemans Bay bar
Batemans Bay bar sits at the entrance to the Clyde River. The Batemans Bay bar is dynamic and the entrance can move over time. You can find the latest Hydrographic plans from Transport for NSW

Upon entering Batemans Bay from either the North or the South, it is is recommended skippers follow the sector lights located on Square Head, while staying to the North side of Snapper Island.

Once past Snapper Island, the skipper should follow the leads at the Northern end of Corrigans Beach. These leads will guide you through the deepest channel of the bar.

Once across the bar, continue between the Starboard buoy and the rock wall into the Clyde River channel.

Moruya Bar

The Moruya bar sits at the entrance to the Moruya River. The waters around the Moruya River entrance bar are generally shallow, however the channel has a depth of > 2m extending from the river mouth to the main town jetty.
To enter the channel, begin by approaching the bar entrance from the North-East. Upon rounding the rock-wall, ensure you keep to the Northern side of the channel. Follow the leads to guide you along the rock wall almost due West. As the rockwall begins to turn to the South, move to the South side of the channel, making sure to keep clear of the isolated danger marker and observing all other navigation marks.
